Methodology Insights
Story points are a relative unit of measure, used by agile development teams, to provide estimates
of the effort required to implement a given story.
Story points are a unitless measure, so the values assigned to them are relative and should remain
consistent over time.
The most common scale used is the Fibonacci sequence (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, etc.). This allows
teams to quickly converge on an estimate, while also preventing them from getting bogged down in
granular details.
Benefits of Using Story Points
- Improved accuracy of estimates
- Increased team collaboration
- Better understanding of project scope
- More realistic sprint planning
